Yard questions
Telegram FAQ for download, install, and safety
Eight long-tail questions we hear after a first Telegram download. Lane sheets still hold the platform-specific steps.
Telegram will not open after setup
Quit the tray copy, reboot once, and launch from the icon this yard’s Windows or Mac sheet created. A leftover portable folder can steal the profile. If the window still dies, move the install off a synced Desktop folder.
What is the safe way to update an existing Telegram client
Let the client apply its own revision, or return to the matching lane page and run that button again. Do not stack a random “Telegram plus” installer on top of a working copy.
How Telegram treats personal data and secret chats
Cloud chats follow the account. Secret chats stay on the two devices that opened them and are not part of the ordinary backup. Review last-seen and group-add gates on night one.
Cloud chat versus device-only secret chat
A cloud chat reappears on a new laptop after QR login. A secret chat does not. If the topic must vanish with the phone, use a secret chat and know that a factory reset ends it.
How much disk Telegram uses for media
Auto-download on busy video channels is the usual hog. Trim cache in data settings after a travel week. Desktop and Mac hold more local files than a browser tab.
Same Telegram account on several devices
Yes. Name each session and revoke café laptops from the phone. Generic get-the-app links on this site go to the hub; then pick the machine in your hand.
Phone number check during Telegram signup
A SMS or in-app code proves the number. QR from a phone you already trust is faster on a new PC. If the SMS never arrives, wait out the timer before requesting another.
Resume a Telegram download that stalled
Use the same lane button again — it goes through the download helper. A half-written exe or APK should be deleted first so the next file is complete.
